once shadows hid strange beings of the night
now each of us can name the happy star
the room for tragedy is not so slight
over each word we wrangle and we fight
then each of us will walk up to the bar
once shadows hid strange beings of the night
not one of us will see with blinding sight
how one will make while others simply mar
the room for tragedy is not so slight
no records tell us of the greatest blight
that haunted us and made us flee so far
once shadows hid strange beings of the night
we listen to old saws and speeches trite
too much of that and we'll fall below par
the room for tragedy is not so slight
a single turn and all things become bright
another note is played on the guitar
once shadows hid strange beings of the night
the room for tragedy is not so slight
