i know that life's a matter of high art
the thing we do is make it into play
still there is truth within each living heart
you make demand for the exciting part
and when its done you'll always rue the day
i know that life's a matter of high art
the body's not much more than an old cart
it knows the ruts and puddles on the way
still there is truth within each living heart
across the lawn you see a swift bird dart
its hunger simply will not let it stay
i know that life's a matter of high art
you'd sell your soul if you could find the mart
your very skin you'd let the butcher flay
still there is truth within each living heart
what's at the end was there right at the start
the silence holds the best things that we say
i know that life's a matter of high art
still there is truth within each living heart
