all of our longing's focused on the rain
there's little we can do but wait and fret
the grass must wonder at this human strain
our work seems focused on but little gain
the duties come and go but we're beset
all of our longing's focused on the rain
a time of waiting's not easy in the main
we plant and hope that we will not regret
the grass must wonder at this human strain
no sooner promised than it's gone again
the lack of water is our greatest debt
all of our longing's focused on the rain
the clouds all dissipate that much is plain
we seem to know that nothing we will get
the grass must wonder at this human strain
another day passes with weight of pain
we want to hope but we will soon forget
all of our longing's focused on the rain
the grass must wonder at this human strain
